The first ever Grand Prix is here for Era 1, and the The Texas Rattlesnakes lineup were available to give their thoughts on what it means to participate in the GP, and what they think about their first round opponents.
Stipe Miocic:
I think it's awesome to have the opportunity to fight. I only just arrived at the team gym a couple weeks ago for my final fight of the season. So far I like it here a lot, and to be chosen to represent the team means a lot to me. As for Arlovski, he's a tough guy, he's had a huge rebound after a rough start, and I think he'll be a good challenge, and a great opportunity to move up in the rankings.
Gegard Mousasi:
At first I wasn't sure who was going to be chosen to represent the middleweights. Jan (Blachowicz) has been working his ass off, so I wouldn't have been surprised if he got the nod. Much like Stipe, I'm looking forward to fighting for a higher rank against Michael Bisping. It should be a good fight, but I don't anticipate Bisping surviving more than two rounds.
Khabib Nurmagomedov:
This is great honor to be fighting in the first Grand Prix. Jake Shields is good fighter, but I don't see him as a threat. I will smash him and every other opponent I face in the Grand Prix, and then I'll take the belt from Penn next season.
Max Holloway:
I been knowing I'd be fighting in the GP this season, and Dominick Cruz is no slouch. Unfortunately for him he's gonna have to take me down to have a chance in hell, and I don't see the fight staying on the ground if he does. I hope he's ready for a fight, and I hope Gilbert Melendez is ready to defend that belt next season when I'm done knocking heads together here.
Valentina Shevchenko:
I am very excited to represent my team at the Grand Prix. Erin Toughill fights at a larger weight than me, so it will be a great challenge. If and when we move on, there are many other tough girls ready to fight out there, so I will continue training hard, and hopefully I can earn an opportunity at the belt next season.
