What's something not taught in school that you wish was taught in school?
1 point for every good or thoughtful reply (limited to 1 point per team, but might throw out an extra point or two for best answers, or a lot of good contributions or something).

Mental health care. I know that being educated about it would have helped me with big battles down the road.

Mental health care. I know that being educated about it would have helped me with big battles down the road. Any specific things about mental health care? Like knowing about mental heath issues like ADHD, depression, etc, or more like things like how to manage things like stress and anxiety etc? Other things?

Many things. How to do your own taxes, what a mortgage is and how to know whether it’s a good price or not for you, financials - they should have had a class that taught people how to save and manage their money.
On top of that, they teach you about having safe sex to avoid having a kid but they don’t teach you about parenting or what to do when you do have a kid.

I'll come up with something later, but for now I hated how school always made it seem like it was University or bust. Like if I didnt go to a University, I couldn't be successful or happy. I went into the work force and my friends went into University. Some of them have switched their Majors twice and are going to be thousands in debt. I have no debt and a few thousand in savings. And there's tons of room to move up or go to a trade school for way cheaper.

As an owner of a company I can say that the majority of the major positions are filled by people with not only university degrees but people with masters and doctorates in their specific field. My one suggestion for the route you're taking is fine something you like and become the best at it because it you go for an interview and you have the same qualifications as somebody who went to university/college 9 times out of 10 the employer will hire the graduate. So make sure you work your ass off to show that your qualifications are much higher.

Yeah for me personally it would have been great to learn how to save or invest money. How to buy a house, sustainable living, and more day to day shit like how to fix stuff like plumbing, cars, electric.

Yeah I feel like the curriculum hasn't been updated in years and is very outdated. I'll never forget the argument I had with my grade 11 math teacher when she said "this formula can be used to build a rollercoaster". Like okay, why is that more important to learn than how to file my taxes or how to keep a good credit score.
And I love the excuse of "well, your parents can teach you that". K, I'm lucky enough to have a family that is doing very well in life and can help me through a lot of stuff but not everybody is in that situation. A lot of kids only have one parent at home and that parent is working 2 jobs to keep the house afloat. This dumb mentality is how people stay in poverty.

More than a fake interview in your careers class. Legitimately teaching people about actual job related skills that apply to every position:
- Work Ethic - Teamwork and Leadership and knowing when independent work is more important than team and vice versa and when to take a back seat and how to delegate and how to be delegated to - Organization skills - Time Management skills - Professional communication and how to draft texts to employers, etc. - How to build a resume properly - How to interview
Literally all the things you need to actually make money working any job that doesn't even require an education. It blows my mind how ill prepared people are, and how many parents try to be involved in their kids job searching and even contacting employers.

See I didn’t even think of those cause I took business classes as electives. Many kids didn’t and they’ve been screwed because of it. The schooling system is a legitimate joke. I’ve learned more in my year and a half of working than I did in all my years of schooling.

The job I'm working at right now has people in top positions making six figures who never went to college. They just knew what they were doing, or had experience in that field. I want look into being an electrician, im not trying to go into any "major" positions. That basically requires taking a course at a trade school for like 2 weeks, and then a 4 year paid apprenticeship, which in my opinion is the best way to learn.

Yeah but that's seen as the uni/college of your job. Most people in trades do trade school and an apprenticeship.

But school tries to make it sound like that's frowned upon.
