But maybe one day probably not though you think? ya well guess we'll never know but we could know though i suppose we could know ya but right now we don't we certainly do not but alas here we are wondering wondering we are for sure that one day we might know and that day is unlikely and so we wonder anyways THERE. I DID IT. I SAVED EVERYONE THE NEXT 3 PAGES OF CONVERSATIONS YOU BORING FUCKS. Instead, let's talk about the absolutely absurd notion that a new Little Mermaid can't be black. Guess what angry white people? You can go ahead and watch the original with the Caucasian sexualized underage half-fish monster you want to fuck ANYTIME you want. For 30 years. There’s a new Little Mermaid movie?

Are people actually mad about that? I've seen people complain about the people complaining, but I actually haven't seen anyone complain about her being black. If they are, it is indeed stupid.

Idk for me it just doesn’t make sense, I don’t care enough to fight about it but if Jasmine or Tiana were made into a Caucasian character the whole world would burn down.
I think people need to just stop focusing so much on the skin colour/gender of every character and just enjoy them for how they are.

i feel like if you made a thing keep that thing your thing so what i mean is i dont care what color or race anything is but if disneys ariel is a white redhead animated they should stick with that and keep their live action the same not switch it up. otherwise its just pandering like they keep trying to do to us with all their gay characters. its nice you think you are trying and if i felt like it was sincere it would matter but so many of us are just so fucking tired of pandering and shit like everyones logo is rainbow for exactly pride month then july 1st its back to the same shit with no change in product or policy or discrimination or whatever else. you know how stores sell halloween shit until oct 31 then nov 1 ints instantly onto the next thing and chistmas shit is everywhere and on december 27th theres valentines shit? its the same thing like our lives is not a commercial occasion for you to cash in on. if you are an ally be an actual ally and do change. if disney wants colored or gay characters they realy needstop switching characters race or gender or sex and just make new things for new audiences to enjoy with naturally gay or colored characters like all these people deserve their own stories not just rehashed regendered or recolored old stuff. but mostly stop the damned pandering its disgusting. sorry that got long it just strikes a nerve

I honestly couldn’t agree with Byron more. It feels fake and that they’re doing it to appease “cancel culture”.

I agree, but I think some characters are meant to be specific, and others it really doesn't matter. Nobody wants to see a white actor play Black Panther. But Genie from Aladdin? He's a big blue guy, so it really doesn't matter. As for voice acting, I think it shouldn't matter at all, and if you can do the voice you should be able to portray that character.

They should be portrayed as they were written. It’s how you keep it realistic and stop the race war that keeps happening. Nobody will ever be happy with equality, everybody wants to be in power. Just take the Palestine/Israel nonstop war for example. Israel started off with 6% of the land but wanted to be equal, once they got to that point they then decided they wanted more until they owned all of it and essentially buried Palestine behind walls. Same goes for the gender war, feminists don’t want equality, they want power and that’s already been shown by the “we don’t need men” movements. You don’t see men saying that shit lol, we know we need women just as they need us. I myself am all for equality but this world is filled of greed that equality is beyond impossible, there will always be people in power and it’ll always be a battle until everybody just learns to stop giving a shit what your race or gender is and start working as one to make our planet better.

Note to self to reply here later, as I'm insanely fascinated by everything said here, and like always have lots of opinions.

Then we’re all good lmao. There’s a lot of Zionists in Israel, if I had a “Free Palestine” sticker on our car here I would probably be either dead or close to it by now lmao. It’s honestly quite sad how little they care about our lives and yet Canada and the US supports them and calls us the terrorists…

Like, say a little black girls favourite character is Ariel, but she is white. Can't really be that for halloween or anything (something that came up ALL THE TIME over the past 50 years - all the cool characters, boy or girl, were always white. So kids could not be Superman, they had to be Black Superman. Or some random villain, or what have you. In this sense, diversifying characters in different incarnations of that franchise helps diversify the people who can relate to that character etc. While I agree with you fully that companies need to diversify their stories and make good new ones, I feel like Disney is doing that more and more (Coco, Encanto, Moana, etc), moreso than just re-colourizing their old brands. I agree completely about pandering, and the commodification of race and gender. It's always fun to look at how many scripts, for example, a studio will produce written by non-cis white men as they spend 9 months of the year talking on their social medias about race, gender, sex equality etc. If you believe this - awesome. Do it. Tell those stories, produce those scripts, and be the change you are talking about! You have the power, billion-dollar-corporation! Do something other than changing your damned avatars!

He's a big blue guy, so it really doesn't matter. As for voice acting, I think it shouldn't matter at all, and if you can do the voice you should be able to portray that character. Yeah, related to this, I think good characters (especially in grown-up movies) have to be written to be the thing they are. I think there are some roles where I don't fully buy into the idea of "Cast anyone who is best for the part". Good chraracters are reflections of their environment (and their outlooks on their current world can give you clever insights into their history and upbringing without flashbacks or backstory exposition). I always find it cheap when a character that has no business knowing something or having experienced something does, just for the sake of a line, a quote, or a scene or something. For example, if a character grows up poor, or homeless since birth, its a stretch for them to have strong opinions about the teaching of critical race theory in high schools - especially if they have never been to one. As a product of a certain environment, you are exposed moreso to certain people, certain behaviours, and certain ideologies. Having a poor black child talk about middle class white person issues annoys me. Same works with making a male character a woman. Even if race or gender or sex play no role in the plot of the movie, a well-done character will still reflect who and what they are. Again, I want to emphasize, this is for adult movies, not kids movies. Characters in kids movies are, by necessity, relatively flat and universally relatable. But its a shitty fact that certain adults in the world have experienced certain things that others wouldn't have (racism, sexist, harassment, bullying, etc), and casting (and good writing) should reflect that. Like if you have a female CEO who has no idea what sexism or harassment in the workplace is about, your character is trash. But if you have a male CEO who is equally as ignorant about it, that makes more sense, based on their lived experiences.
